Capt. Murray Munro Receives ALPA’s Presidential Citation
Calgary Pilot Recognized for Compassionate Support of Pilots and Families

WASHINGTON—The Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) recognized Jazz Air Capt. Murray Munro with a Presidential Citation for his outstanding efforts to assist pilots and their families in times of crisis. The award was presented Wednesday at ALPA’s Pilot Assistance Conference in Dulles, Va.

In three decades of work with the Association’s Canadian Pilot Assistance Group, Capt. Munro has made significant contributions to the physical and emotional well-being of cockpit crewmembers at Jazz Air and the eight other Canadian airlines represented by ALPA.

“Capt. Munro has been supporting his peers at his own airline and throughout Canada for more than 22 years,” said ALPA President Capt. Lee Moak. “He has a unique insight into how to approach and support people in stress, and numerous pilots, family members and others have benefited from his understanding and compassion.”

As Chair of the Canadian Pilot Assistance Group, Capt. Munro leads a team of volunteers whose goal is to support individual pilots’ physical and mental wellness.

Working with ALPA’s Critical Incident Response Program, he has personally helped many pilots deal with crisis, including the attempted hijacking of CanJet Flight 918 in Jamaica in 2009 and the crash of First Air Flight 6560 in 2011.

In his role as Pilot Assistance Chairman and Pilot Wellness Chairman for the Jazz Air pilot group, Capt. Munro has also helped countless pilots retain or re-acquire their medical certification.

“Murray is always available any time, day or night, to assist a fellow pilot in need,” Moak said. “I speak for all of ALPA’s members when I commend him for his extraordinary dedication and service in always being there to help the ALPA family when crisis strikes.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilots union, representing more than 50,000 pilots at 33 airlines in the United States and Canada.
